SenseGraphics CEO, Mr Tommy Forsell just arrived from a very successful Industry Roundtable meeting at the West China Hospital in Cheng du, China.
Over 60 people, members of the CSTAR industry Roundtable, (http://www.lhsc.on.ca/About_Us/CSTAR/Industry.htm), took part in the meeting to discuss advances in invasive surgical and interventional technologies as well as medical robotics and simulations.

As being part of the Stockholm Visualisation Center (www.vic-sthlm.se) SenseGraphics had the pleasure of joining the Royal Institute of Technology booth at the GAMEX exhibition in Stockholm during the weekend.
The GAMEX conference is targeting the consumer gaming market and this was the first year the event took place in Kista Fair, not far from SenseGraphics office. The exhibition was a huge success, expectations before the event was to gather 25 000 visitors during the 4 day event but only on Saturday more than 10000 visitors showed up!!!
SenseGraphics brought the Core Skills Trainer (www.CoreSkillsTrainer.com) to the event, a great tool for learning what haptics is and what haptics can do to for the user experience. For the more hard core gamers our ASUS 3D Laptop loaded with Half Life 2 Episode 1, combined with haptics from Novint got even more attention! The use of real 3D stereo was actually quite common at the exhibition but we were the only one showing 3D stereo together with haptics in a real cool game.

SenseGraphics has successfully proven eye tracking from Tobii to be a possible part of SenseGraphics Display solutions. A working prototype, integrating 3D projection technology with DepthQ Polarization Modulator and Tobii eye tracker, has been developed during a thesis project together with Linköping University. All components are now in place for taking this prototype to another level with the software integration of H3DAPI in a new master thesis project to start very soon.
Using eye tracking with SenseGraphics Display systems and H3DAPI would bring to the researcher a unique tool for analyzing user attention, motoric skills and the influence of haptics in real 3D stereo, multi-sensory environments.

Almost everything is about real 3D stereo at the 3D&VR 2010 forum in Tokyo. Sony, JVC, LG and Panasonic are some of the BIG players showing their new products for the 3DTV and VR market.
Being present at the Nihon Binary exhibition booth we have been able to attract hundreds of visitors to the SenseGraphics Display 300, featuring not only 3D stereo but also haptics. The user can feel the 3D objects where the graphics are represented and for sure this is a “waow” experience for first time users…
Media has been here and broad casting (live) from our booth. Hopefully we’re able to link to some of the coverage soon.

If you are into application development or research using haptics and you think you can handshake… then this information might be of interest to you!?
Researchers at Ben Gurion University are calling for the best, or most life-like, Handshake algorithm there is…
The official call will take place during the 6th BGU-CMCW in June 2010 and the winner will be announced during the following happening of the same conference in year 2011.
I you feel for handshake algorithms and would like to take on this challenge please go: here…

We have’ve had so many new cool gadgets to play around with here at the SenseGraphics office lately: the Tobii Eyetracker, one ForceDimension Omega.7 (gripper with force feedback), we just did some first tries out and H3DAPI implementation on an industrial camera (swedish manufacturer) and we’ve also unpacked our own Phantom Desktop from SensAble that we will have here at the office for specific application demos. But we are still waiting for one big wodden box containing a simulator that we’ve been part of developing software for… it should be here any minute now.

We have just started a thesis project to investigate the possibility to integrate Tobii eye tracking technology with SenseGraphics H3DAPI and SenseGraphics Display solutions. Tobii, a company in Sweden, has been very successful in bringing their eye tracking products to the market, not only for assistive and research use but also in outstanding eye-tracking solutions for market research and usability studies/analysis. In just a couple of years they’ve grown from a small start-up to a company employing well over 200 people, all over the world!

The Tobii eye tracking technology has some advantages to competitors solutions; fully automatic eye tracking, very high accuracy with the ability to track nearly all people with good tolerances on head motions.
The thesis work includes hardware integration of eye tracking for use in SenseGraphics “immersive workbench” solutions. As we are using real stereo 3D in our setups, there is a great challenge to overcome the problem of 3D glasses blocking lights. Tobii is using advanced image processing of a person’s face and eyes and reflections in the eyes of infrared reference lights to estimate eye position and precise “gaze target”. The thesis project will investigate some possible solutions and hopefully we’re able to present a working prototype later this year…!?
The combination of eye tracking and use of haptics in real 3D stereo interactive environments would allow for some very interesting research possibilities in for example neuroscience. Hopefully our H3DAPI users will “soon” gain access to users gaze and eye position data for further research application development in SenseGraphics Display solutions…
