Haptics give ‘Sight’ to Wheelchair

With the use of haptic technology, an ordinary wheelchair is given the ability to ’see or feel’ by a team of researchers at the Luleå University of Technology. This electric wheelchair is able to sense its surroundings and transmits information to a person who is visually impaired. This is achieved by the use of SenseGraphics H3DAPI platform, a haptic robot to serve as a virtual walking cane, 3D laser scanner, and a joystick for navigation. The 3D map created by the laser scanner is transmitted to the haptic platform, which creates the virtual touch environment and feeds this information back to its user via the haptic device.

Project HIPP (Haptics in Pedagogical Practice) by Lund University’s Certec, has developed a HIPP Drawing Program that enables users with visual impairments to draw digital images in an interactive tactile-audio environment. SenseGraphics H3DAPI comes into play by making it possible to use a haptic pen device to experience touch feedbacks as the user creates the images i.e. feeling the different depths of the lines drawn on the screen and receiving audio feedbacks as the user explores a map. Version 1.0 Beta of the HIPP Program is now available for free download, do check out HIPP main page for more details!

Affordable mobile Dome solution

SenseGraphics has joined forces with Swedish startup company (and company office neighbor) Jdome to present a really interesting product.

Researchers at Ben Gurion University are calling for the best, or most life-like, Handshake algorithm there is…

The official call will take place during the 6th BGU-CMCW in June 2010 and the winner will be announced during the following happening of the same conference in year 2011.

Almost like Christmas…

We have’ve had so many new cool gadgets to play around with here at the SenseGraphics office lately: the Tobii Eyetracker, one ForceDimension Omega.7 (gripper with force feedback), we just did some first tries out and H3DAPI implementation on an industrial camera (swedish manufacturer) and we’ve also unpacked our own Phantom Desktop from SensAble that we will have here at the office for specific application demos. But we are still waiting for one big wodden box containing a simulator that we’ve been part of developing software for… it should be here any minute now.

Medaphor ScanTrainer released

SenseGraphics has been helping UK company Medaphor to develop the “world’s most advanced ultrasound training simulator”. The ScanTrainer has now been released to the public during the British Society for Gynaecological Imaging annual scientific meeting (April 15th). SenseGraphics has been contracted to develop and deliver a Sensegraphics Display Solution aimed at being displayed in a public exhibition. First test assembly of the setup was done today and here is how it all looked like…
