SenseGraphics riding the wave of 3D stereo in Tokyo

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Almost everything is about real 3D stereo at the 3D&VR 2010 forum in Tokyo. Sony, JVC, LG and Panasonic are some of the BIG players showing their new products for the 3DTV and VR market.

Being present at the Nihon Binary exhibition booth we have been able to attract hundreds of visitors to the SenseGraphics Display 300, featuring not only 3D stereo but also haptics. The user can feel the 3D objects where the graphics are represented and for sure this is a “waow” experience for first time users…

Media has been here and broad casting (live) from our booth. Hopefully we’re able to link to some of the coverage soon.

There will also be some pictures from the show posted shortly..

For your eyes only…

Friday, May 28th, 2010

We have just started a thesis project to investigate the possibility to integrate Tobii eye tracking technology with SenseGraphics H3DAPI and SenseGraphics Display solutions. Tobii, a company in Sweden, has been very successful in bringing their eye tracking products to the market, not only for assistive and research use but also in outstanding eye-tracking solutions for market research and usability studies/analysis. In just a couple of years they’ve grown from a small start-up to a company employing well over 200 people, all over the world!

Tobii stand alone tracker

The Tobii eye tracking technology has some advantages to competitors solutions; fully automatic eye tracking, very high accuracy with the ability to track nearly all people with good tolerances on head motions.

The thesis work includes hardware integration of eye tracking for use in SenseGraphics “immersive workbench” solutions. As we are using real stereo 3D in our setups, there is a great challenge to overcome the problem of 3D glasses blocking lights. Tobii is using advanced image processing of a person’s face and eyes and reflections in the eyes of infrared reference lights to estimate eye position and precise “gaze target”. The thesis project will investigate some possible solutions and hopefully we’re able to present a working prototype later this year…!?

The combination of eye tracking and use of haptics in real 3D stereo interactive environments would allow for some very interesting research possibilities in for example neuroscience. Hopefully our H3DAPI users will “soon” gain access to users gaze and eye position data for further research application development in SenseGraphics Display solutions…

SenseGraphics showing the latest in Magdeburg

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

SenseGraphics partnered with the German company Schneider digital for the haptic conference in Magdeburg.

SenseGraphics is presenting the new SenseGraphics Display 300 series and some new medical simulation software from the Medaphor company in UK. Also featured in the SenseGraphics/Schneider booth is Viewsonic 3D enabled projector and the Planar 3 displays with haptics from SensAble.

Schneider with technical speciality in 3D graphics tested out the ATI FirePro V8700 card with H3DAPI 2.1 running using Planar display and Window XP 64 bit OS. Quadbuffered setting stereo(!) the standard demos in H3DAPI 2.1 (medx3d wih a segmented brain!!!) and it worked like a dream…

SenseGraphics at Miccai captured on Youtube

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Our friends from Quanser captured SenseGraphics at the Miccai conference in a video and put it up on youtube recently.

Another interesting video from Miccai features the Inition (another SenseGraphics friend) company booth. Inition is specialised in all sorts of 3D visualisation gears. In the video below (after 1 minute) you will find a haptics Botox concept simulator that actually was put togteher using SenseGraphics H3DAPI and development services from our company.

H3DAPI on the move to Japan

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

SenseGraphics technology will be presented by the Proviz project at the Swedish embassy in Tokyo, Japan, September 20. PhD Stina Svensson will show some of the work done in the Proviz project which includes 3D visualization and manipulation of Proteins…

SenseGraphics is launching SGD3

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

SenseGraphics is currently at the MICCAI conference in London showing their newly developed SenseGraphics Display SGD3. This seams to be the first 120 HZ LCD based Immersive Workbench available on the market.

Think about adding dual haptics with gripping interface to this setup and voila you will have the perfect environment to develop a robotic medical simulator for your own Da Vinci robotics.

Simodont the Virtual Dental Simulator

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The brand new Virtual Dental Simulator called Simodont,  from MOOG in the Netherlands, was presented to the public during the 35th annual meeting of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE).

SenseGraphics has been an important partner in developing the new Dental Simulator providing both software and consultancy work to MOOG. The Simodont is a unique product developed for the dental simulation market. The Simodont includes new haptics hardware that is co-located with real 3D stereo graphics allowing for real life training on virtual patients with hands-on drilling exercises and monitoring of dental mirror.

ACTA, the dental educator in the Netherlands, has funded the development of the simulator and also ordered a number of installation.

Real LCD 3D stereo in full resolution

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Yet another 3D display is beeing tested at SenseGraphics office.

This time were looking at the Planar display which is using two separate LCD displays, one for the left eye and one for the right eye, for producing real 3D stereo content. Both displays are then “co-located” to the same viewing focal plane by using a mirror which is polarised. Each display picture is then “coded” to each eye as the user is wearing light plastic and passive stereo glassess. The display, which major advantage is full LCD display resolution in real stereo 3D, has been on the market for some years and has been very successfull in the geo-science market area.
