SenseGraphics is proud to announce the next release of the
popular open-source haptic API, H3D - packed with dozens of new
features and improved X3D compliance. H3D API enables rapid
prototyping and development of cross-platform touch enabled
3D applications.
With the release of H3D API 1.3, SenseGraphics strengthens its
position as the leading provider of hapto-visual scene-graph APIs.
H3D API is available as two products:
H3D API Free
- C++, Python and X3D programming interfaces
- Complete source code
- Free, under the GNU General Public License (GPL)
H3D API Commercial - 2,500 Euro
- C++, Python and X3D programming interfaces
- Complete source code
- Ideal for commercial development, not restricted by the GPL
New features:
Professional Support
Professional support is now available for H3D and related
products. Support is available in two packages, premium or basic
support, and offers first class support with guaranteed minimum
response times. Free support is still available via
www.h3d.org. See our
Support Page
for more details.
Cross-platform binary release for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows
H3D API is now available in an easy-to-install binary package for
Linux, Mac OS X Tiger and Windows XP. Now you can download and be
running H3D examples in just minutes.
Support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 compiler suite offers improvements over
its predecessor, Visual Studio .NET 2003. VS 2005 compiles faster,
produces more efficient code and has significantly improved ANSI C++
compliance. VS 2005's improved debugger allows you to really take
advantage of the fact that you have the source code to H3D API, making
debugging a breeze!
Support for xCode 2.2
Apple's new xCode 2.2 development platform offers significant
improvements in debugging and profiling. xCode also features
integrated Subversion support allowing you to easily update to the
latest version of the API.
Support for OpenHaptics 2.0
H3D API uses OpenHaptics 2.0 from SensAble for surface-based haptics
rendering using the Phantom range of haptics devices. OpenHaptics 2.0
works on Linux, Mac OS X Tiger and Windows XP.
Audio Support
H3D API now supports 3D audio allowing you to add sound to your
multi-sensory applications. H3D supports the following popular sound
formats: AIFF/AIFF-C, WAVE, NeXT/Sun .snd/.au, Berkeley/IRCAM/CARL
Sound File, Audio Visual Research, Amiga IFF/8SVX, and NIST SPHERE and
OGG Vorbis.
Improved Documentation
Our online documentation has now been complemeted with an easy-to-read
manual that helps you get the most out of H3D. The manual takes you
step-by-step through installation of H3D on Windows, Mac OS X and
Linux. The manual also gives you design guidelines to ensure that your
applications are scalable and help you leverage the power of H3D.
Shaders and Environment Mapping
H3D API now offers support for OpenGL extensions such as shaders and
environment mapping. Utilising the X3D standards for advanced OpenGL
features, we now have nodes for both GLSL and CG shading languages as
well as environment mapping through X3D cubic map textures. These new
features offer stunningly life-like rendering for your haptic applications.
More examples
H3D API now comes with more example programs in Python, X3D and
C++. Examples are also linked to our discussion forum so that you can
discuss the examples with other users and even post your own examples.
Still Free!
H3D API v1.3 is free - for both new and existing users. And we don't
just mean free,
as in free beer - you also get the complete source code,
making the API fully transparent and giving you full control over every
aspect of the API.
Examples of customer projects using H3D API include a dental training
simulator and a volume-based sculpting tool.
